Blackbelt in Insulin Injection

Ah, the challenge of negotiation, bargaining and ultimately injecting insulin. It's a process here that we practice 4 times a day. Lindsey is too young right now to draw her doses and self inject ~ so it's a parental duty. I alternate 'good cop, bad cop' route with Lindsey. I try first to be generous and allow her to choose her site and play a part in the therapy ~ unfortunately this has become a 30 minute ordeal. I then usually end up going 'bad cop' and just laying it on the line that we have 20 minutes to get to preschool and it is time. She generally picks her belly as her favored site ~ so then I'm usually trying to tell her that we have to rotate side and places. She is very hesitant of her arm ~ she has small non fleshy arms so oddly while that is a favorite site for many diabetics..Lindsey hates it. I took the kids swimming yesterday afternoon at the gym ~ I noticed that Lindsey is developing small little bruises everywhere from the pokes and sticks ~ they don't look any worse than most kid bruises and I bet several kids there have the exact same bruises from skateboards, running at the park and wrestling with their brother. I just see her very fair skin and feel guilty that I made those marks.

This morning we ended up taking our injection in our leg ~ till noon I get a break and am not thinking about the next stick. Brett and I have developed a habit of texting her blood sugar and rating the stick to each other when we are apart. I just know when I see 435 ~ boo hoosky ~ she cried but got the insulin she needed. Our goal at night is to only have one stick as she always gets her 5 units of lantus but can avoid a correcting dose of insulin if our sugar is below 200. That's a good thing !
